SOLACE

A theme that I return to time and again is the empty space. The architectural green space. The space that affords solace and peace and is far removed from the verb to garden. I believe our appreciation for these rooms should be embraced more in design and I like to include them as often as possible.

For this show garden I wanted to balance the intensive energy required in the adjoining productive space with areas where nothing was needed of you.

Green resilient hedging provided verticals and wild native grasses on the ground plane encouraged you to walk barefoot or softly lie. Both these elements produced a cocooning effect, dulling outside noise and cooling the air.

The gravel courtyard with its geometric placing of same species tree and simple water feature worked a calming colour tone, creating the same effect as in the green.

This is the type of garden I aspire to create.
